Thesis Abstract

Civic mutations is a building prototype on the fusion of urban space and architectural space based on the fragmentation and porosity of modern telecommunication technologies. The main goal of civic mutations is to investigate the effectiveness of a proposed program for the prototype. It explores the idea on mutation of civic spaces and its relationship to the adjacent architecture based on the effect and patterns of social network and interaction within the virtual realm, resulting in the idea of open architecture.

What constitute open spaces in the fragmentation of modern urban planning? What justifies public and private spaces in a society where information can be easily accessible with mapping and tracking technologies? Or does a segregation between public and private spaces even matter?

These questions will serve as a basis to create a space that is adaptable by series of events – a space that reacts and interacts with the users’ patterns. This is a proposal for an architectural platform that is constantly active and an environment that serves both the actor and the spectator.
